A lovely account of a visit to the Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum in St Austell by one of Cornwalls Cottages friends.
"Last week I visited the Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and it was a very enjoyable afternoon out. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The museum includes an interactive indoor experience, a café and shop. The rest is outdoors and very attractively laid out.
I walked the short way up through the woods to the viewing point for the working clay pit, and took the long way back down which included spectacular views across the valley. My dog was made welcome indoors as well as out and he had a thoroughly good time in the woods. The rhododendrons were not yet out and it is a while until the bluebell season but I imagine the woods would be spectacular in the right season.
In the shop I was given a free map showing local walks, including a 2 mile one into St Austell and a 5 mile one to the Eden Project, which sounds like a very full day! I'd recommend a visit to Wheal Martyn to anyone interested in either the industry or just a lovely day out in the Spring air."
