Watch House Restaurant, St Mawes

The Watch House Restaurant in St Mawes has undergone a complete refit and re-opened in June to glowing reviews...

"We found the restaurant to be first class and think for the quality of the food the prices were excellent. We hadn't booked and the restaurant was busy but the friendly staff were able to find us a table and the whole dining experience was first class, the food was amazing." Mrs Davis, July 2011

"The Old Watch House in St Mawes which you had a rather low opinion of has been refurbished and reopened under new management a few weeks ago as 'The Watch House' along with the take-away 'Watch Out'. Mains are £8-15. The food was very nice, definitely a cut above standard pub fare but not overly fussy, and good value for the quality. Having eaten there once we just booked again without bothering to try anywhere else. The place itself has been nicely done, simple but effective d├ęcor etc. It has been booked solid for the first couple of weeks, and was also when we were there were there at the end of June, so ringing in advance is advised." Dr Packham, July 2011

Our own review in our Essential Guide to the Roseland Peninsula has also had this amendment...

"The newly refurbished Watch House restaurant opened in early June 2011. Completely different in every way from the previous incarnation, the restaurant offers informal surroundings in which to enjoy some fabulous local produce. Gone is the dated interior of the old restaurant and in its place a modern design, possibly a bit too stark in its early stages, but we are sure that pictures will be appearing on the walls soon! The bonus is now the first floor restaurant which offers great views over the harbour. Expect modern British cuisine and fair prices and we reckon probably this is the best all round place to eat in St Mawes at the moment. The takeaway has also been refurbished and offers proper, fresh fish & chips instead of the frozen offerings previously sold! An all round vast improvement and we would thoroughly recommend it!
