Roseland Triathlon 2012 Olympic Year

This year, the Roseland Triathlon takes place on August 4th in Portscatho on the picturesque Roseland Peninsula.

Following two years of hugely successful Sprint distance races they have decided to expand their course and are offering both Sprint and Standard (Olympic) distance races on the same day. The day happens to coincide with the women's event in the London Olympic Games.

The Roseland Triathlon features an open water swim across Gerrans Bay from Portscatho to Porthcurnick Beach, (twice in the Standard distance race!). A road cycle around the Roseland travelling through St Just in Roseland, St Mawes, and as far as Tregony in the Standard distance race. The change in course this year means the run has a partial road section and then joins the coastal path at either Towan Beach or St Anthony's Headland.

For spectators this year the new route means so much more. The second transition is in the village of Gerrans so spectators can walk from the start to Transition 1, Transition 2 and back down to the finish.

This year the charity event is in aid of the Mermaid Appeal which provides breast care for people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The Roseland Triathlon Just Giving page is a great way to donate for UK tax payers as you can claim Gift Aid making your donation even more valuable to the Mermaid Appeal.

Refreshments will be available all day in the village at Portscatho, where once again they are hoping to put on live music in the afternoon outside The Plume of Feathers. The Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick Beach makes Transition 1 a popular location offering a range of homemade treats.

The Roseland is a beautiful place to hold a triathlon, and we're lucky enough to have two each year, as St Mawes hosts the Nearwater Triathlon in September.
