Tregothnan Charity Garden Open Weekend

Tregothnan Estate are once again opening for their annual charity weekend, this year on the 14th & 15th April 2012 10am - 5pm, last entry 4pm. This is the UK's largest charity garden opening, and tickets for the event are limited to ensure the event is a pleasurable experience. Please visit the Tregothnan Shop for further details.

The gardens are not open to the public normally, but special guided tours can be arranged by appointment only. You can even arrive at the estate by river launch!

Tregothnan is home to The Honourable Evelyn and Mrs Boscawen and their family, and is run as a working country estate, and has been since 1335.  They also have an estate in Kent, Mereworth Woodlands.

The Cornwall estate situated at St Michael Penkivel outside Truro is home to Tregothnan's extensive botanical gardens. Most popular for it's more recent expansion of its tea growing and producing facilities the garden also boasts an impressive range of 'Red Book' endangered planst and trees. The collection contains larger populations of certain varieties than are found anywhere else in the wild. Tregothnan is also home to the worlds only surviving travelling greenhouse, an original Wardian Case, testament to the family's long botanical traditions.

In 2000 Tregothnan first experimented with tea production after being the first to grow ornamental Camellia outdoors some 200 years earlier. One of the larger plantations of tea on the estate sits on the River Fal opposite their restaurant Smugglers & Tea Bar at Tolverne on the Roseland Peninsula. You can sit in the sun with your cream tea and watch the plantation at work. Smugglers Cottage dates back to the 15th Century and as its name suggests has had an illustrious past. Smugglers was extensively renovated in 2010 and turned into Smugglers Restaurant & Tea Bar and control taken back by Tregothnan. They re-open for weekends on Mothering Sunday March 18th and every day from 8th April.

The estate has many 'Wild Escape" holiday cottages listed with Cornwalls Cottages. They are furnished to the highest standards and contain everything you could want in a self catering holiday cottage. Many have log burners, some have espresso machines and all have exceptional Cornish views. Please click on the below links for more information:
